Cenmax Group is proud to recognize Solico Metal on receiving the Sustainability Award at the CISC/ICCA BC Region Awards of Excellence in Steel Construction 2026.
This award recognizes Solico Metal’s work on a structural steel retrofit of an existing warehouse and office facility in Surrey, British Columbia, completed for Garcha Bros Meat Shop & Poultry in collaboration with BMP Engineering & Inspection Inc. and the broader project team.
For Cenmax Group, this recognition reflects the strength of the specialized companies within our group and the value of practical, high-quality industrial work. Solico’s role in this project demonstrates the kind of technical capability, collaboration, and problem-solving that supports stronger project outcomes across Western Canada.
A Practical Approach to Sustainable Construction
The project involved retrofitting an existing facility with tilt-up concrete walls and a suspended slab. Rather than demolishing and rebuilding, the project team developed a custom structural steel solution that allowed the building to be reused, strengthened, and adapted to meet modern operational needs.
Solico Metal supported the project through the fabrication of the steel structure at its Calgary fabrication shop. Components were manufactured in Alberta, shipped to the Surrey project site, and installed by a local erection crew.
This approach helped increase structural capacity while preserving the existing building and supporting continued operations throughout construction.
Recognizing Quality, Collaboration, and Industrial Capability
Sustainability in industrial construction is often practical. It can mean extending the life of an existing structure, reducing unnecessary demolition, improving building performance, and delivering solutions that allow businesses to keep moving forward.
This project is a strong example of how structural steel can help existing buildings meet new demands efficiently and sustainably.
Cenmax Group congratulates the Solico Metal team, Garcha Bros Meat Shop & Poultry, BMP Engineering & Inspection Inc., and all project partners involved in this award-winning work.
We also extend our thanks to the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) for recognizing excellence in steel construction and celebrating projects that demonstrate innovation, collaboration, and practical sustainability.
